Melinda Long had written books before but when she discovered that at the time there were very few children's books about pirates, she decided to write one.  About the same time her book was to come out, Disney released Pirates of the Caribbean.  Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

In this episode:

How Melinda got her book published

The process of writing a children's book

How her work took on a life of it's own via a sequel and a play

Thank you so much for tuning in (or back into) the show, this is my first episode as host of this wonderful ship that Phil Johnson built.  While he has provided so much support and training to have me take over the show, this first effort has all the marks of "what is this guy thinking?!?"  But we have to start somewhere.  The interview is lovely, Melinda couldn't have been a better first guest for me, I hope you tune in to listen to this and all upcoming episodes as I get better at this.
