Happy Halloween! I got this week's episode out a day early for you because Michael Manerchia, president of the Marcus Hook Preservation Society has some great ghost stories to give you a few Halloween shivers.
Marcus Hook, PA was a haven for pirates during the Golden Age - a secret party town where the pirates could blow off some steam. It was also a regular hangout of Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. And...so the legend of the house goes... Blackbeard's mistress.
Michael has some really fascinating stories about the town of Marcus Hook and the houses that made him an accidental archaeologist.
Plus comedy from Justin Hoff, who you can also see more of in the video below.
Sorry, no music this week. I put the word out for bands to send me stuff to play and didn't get a response. And I'm on the road performing and didn't have time to chase them down.

Erikka Innes is a comedian and filmmaker. A few years back she made a short film called "Pool Pirates" that I was lucky enough to be in.
The film is about a crew of pirates that have lost their ship and take over a suburban backyard pool. Very funny!
We talk a lot about the indie filmmaking process in this one and the learning curve of a first time filmmaker.
Plus comedy from Erikka Innes herself and a great song from Barbar O' Rhum called "Coeur de l'Ocean".

Xander Kent is a maker of custom screen printed pirate flags and I'm sure he's got one for you. Cup of Tea jolly roger? Check. Thor's Hammer jolly roger? Check. Microphone jolly roger? On my wishlist.
We dig into the importance of jolly rogers to pirates, why Xander starting making custom ones, the punk influence on his work, graphic design, and more.
Plus we got to do this talk in person, so good sound too! :)
Plus comedy from Brandon Vestal and a great song from Virsces called "Narrows".

Tim Murphy is an animation trained artist with a new comic book series called Pirates of Padre Tiempo that you'll really dig if you're into comics. We'll talk about the stories themselves, his Kickstarter to fund the second issue, and his artistic background.
We'll also dig into the perceptions of "family friendly" - both with people who want violence and sex with their stories and parents who may be waaaay overly concerned with stuff that's not there. And we'll find out what Tim's story challenges were as an artist coming to the writing part.
Plus comedy from Chad Denick and a great song from Douglas Coleman called "All The Way On Love".

The St Augustine Pirate Museum has one of the largest collections of real pirate artifacts anywhere. And today we talk with two of the head honchos over there, Cindy Stavely and Captain Mayhem.
We'll dig into where they get their stuff and who Pat Croce is. Plus the various ways that they educate people about pirate history and culture. Everything from real sunken treasure to Hollywood.
And St Augustine is a mighty piratey place, so we also get into how they stay on the good side of the traditionalists and still entertain the tourists.
Plus comedy from Adam Feuerberg and a great song from Reisender called "Body".
