Marck Forget is a huge backer of pirate entertainment in Canada. He's one of those guys whose name I'd seen around the pirate communities online and it was great fun to talk with him and hear about all his different projects.
Festival des Pirates is an online pirate festival helping to promote various pirate folk the world over. Marck and his team are doing great stuff to bring pirate entertainment to the masses.
You'll enjoy this fun talk. We even devise a plan for a pirate invasion of the world's largest comedy festival. :)

Mike Kelly is the head distiller at Old New Orleans Rum, America's longest running rum company since 1995. Which doesn't seem like that long and Mike will tell us why that is.
We'll get into the process of making rum including how they make their own aging barrels. Mike will also tell us about his rum adventures as a six year old.
And I'll tell you about the strangest compliment I received after a show on my recent Midwest tour.

We'll dig into Helen's career as a writer and what led her from writing historical fantasy to pirate tales. And we talk a lot about the pros and cons of self-publishing vs working with a big publisher.
Plus I'll tell you a bit about my trip to Paisley Park while I was in Minneapolis.

Allen Balogh is the author of the book "Black Sail 1715" about the wreck and plundering of the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet off the coast of Florida. If you're wondering, it's both connected and not connected to the TV show Black Sails. Mostly not. But a little bit yes. :)
Allen gives us a great in depth view of the 1715 fleet's wreck and the pirate plundering that went on around it. Plenty of names you'll recognize as this is smack in the middle of the Golden Age of Piracy.
We'll also learn about the present status of the wreck site and the amazing amount of plunder still down there.
Allen's book is a fantastic historical fiction retelling of the experience that humanizes the dates and places to create a really alive historical experience.

Jim Laird is a name I've been hearing around the pirate community since I started this show. So I'm super happy to have him on the show today!
Jim has survived as Blackbeard longer than Blackbeard himself. And he takes his Blackbeard shows to entertain the kiddies with fun and the adults with history and stories.
We'll dig into how Jim stumbled onto his alter-ego and what it was about donning the rig that made him want to keep doing it.

Baylus Brooks has done a lot of new research into the life and career of Edward "Blackbeard" Teach and presents it in his new book "Quest For Blackbeard".
As history's most famous pirate, Blackbeard has led many to dig into his life for details of his exploits. Was he a bloodthirsty pirate or a successful businessman? Outlaw or backed by land-based merchants?
All that and more apparently. And Baylus Brooks has some interesting information he's gleaned from his research.

We don't get to talk post-Golden Age stuff much on this show, so we have some fun digging into the War of 1812 and the Battle of New Orleans where Lafitte played a prominent part.
And we'll hear about Morgan's own trek back from the jungles of Wall St to his home in Louisiana and how he created his new life.

Lee Arenberg has a great career as a character actor in many things. But you'll most know him as Pintel from the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films. Along with Mackenize Crook's Ragetti, they had some of the best comedic moments of the films and could also play creepy when needed. ('Ello poppet...)
Lee tells us how the creepy little girl from The Ring helped get the first POTC film made the right way and other little bits of fun like which cartoon character Johnny Depp added into his Keith Richards to mold the character of Jack Sparrow.

Happy Halloween! I got this week's episode out a day early for you because Michael Manerchia, president of the Marcus Hook Preservation Society has some great ghost stories to give you a few Halloween shivers.
Marcus Hook, PA was a haven for pirates during the Golden Age - a secret party town where the pirates could blow off some steam. It was also a regular hangout of Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. And...so the legend of the house goes... Blackbeard's mistress.
Michael has some really fascinating stories about the town of Marcus Hook and the houses that made him an accidental archaeologist.
Plus comedy from Justin Hoff, who you can also see more of in the video below.
